This volume collects the Nancy daily newspaper comic strips from 1949–1950.
We actually get 620 timeless, charming and very clever black-and-white Nancy strips by American cartoonist Ernie Bushmiller (1905-1982) in one collection!
Don't worry Sluggo aficionados, Nancy's pal is very much present in this tome. We get to see Sluggo ice skating, playing in the coal yard, struggling with his weight and lack of hair, losing his bubblegum, growing taller, using his periscope, magnet and handheld mirror, working at the bank, circus, and music shop, reading in his attic, ski jumping, dissipating static electricity, going to the most dangerous place in town, tightrope walking, sleeping in a hammock, mowing lawns, walking on stilts, keeping Nancy off the grass, catching a baseball, dressing for tea, painting, playing the trombone and the xylophone, getting a push on a tree swing, slicing some baloney, dancing, golfing, fishing, swimming, paddling his boat, pulling weeds, camping, learning Jiu-Jitsu, digging for worms, getting good grades, eating pies, bananas, a watermelon, cake, a limburger sandwich, onions, pancakes and soup, fixing a faucet, finding warmth, being kind to a cat, remembering his arithmetic formulas, cutting hair, shovelling snow, making a robot, disappearing, racing in a soapbox, falling for a Spanish girl, wrestling, avoiding bugs, watching a scary movie and the rodeo, timekeeping (boxing), appreciating art, tending his garden, observing the moon, escaping death, building snowmen, playing tic-tac-toe and much more.
I give it a 10/10. An excellent, super affordable collection! Feisty Nancy is once again treated like a queen (as she should) by Fantagraphics. Devotees of Fritzi Ritz's niece will be extremely pleased with this gorgeously designed paperback book.
I can't wait for Nancy For All Seasons (The second volume in the new series collecting Bushmiller’s Nancy!), on sale: June 16, 2026! BTW Fantagraphics, a French Canadian version of Nancy For All Seasons for the legion of Philomène fans in Québec would be very much appreciated.
