Creators : Joshua Williamson (writer), Andrea Milan (artist), Lee Loughridge (colorist), Rus Wooton (letter) Story : After a training exercise at the Pitt, the Baroness wishes to have 48 hours of leave (even though she's technically a prisoner).  Clutch brings Autobot Hound into the base.  Cobra Commander and Destro look at the Transformers battle in Seattle and decide to try to retrieve whatever they can from the devastation, though Cobra Commander wants a fully functioning Cybertronian.  Baroness is allowed a leave but Cover Girl needs to go with her.  They get to know each other a bit and enjoy some time in Paris until Major Bludd sends his agents after the Baroness.   Writing : This is a good character-driven issue, especially for the Baroness and Cover Girl.  We get some background on them and they seem to really start to bond over a few shared similarities.  Cobra Commander is still cryptic with Destro but a larger picture is starting to form, co...

Worf's reinstatement with Starfleet is denied by a group of Admirals, only for Jean-Luc Picard to come in and upend the situation.  On Vulcan, Geordi La Forge shows Spock his design for the Jellyfish.  Scotty resigns from Starfleet and meets Nyota Uhura.  Tom Paris reunites with his family.  Martok restores Kahless his honour and gives him a throne to sit and do nothing more.  Ro Laren is held in a detention facility, her sentence reduced.  Finally Benjamin Sisko shares a few moments with his family before returning to the Celestial Temple. This is the final issue of the current IDW slate of books.  It attempts to wrap up various plots, put various characters in place for the events of Nemesis, Trek 09 and even Picard Season 3.  I'd say it achieves this goal.  More or less.  The less being Ro.  She is not granted a pardon because the Maquis are designated a terrorist group... even though they were all wiped out by the Dominion befor...

Jim Zub's A Nest of Serpents part 1: Slaves of the Magi We get a quick adaptation of The Vale of Lost Women (1967). Amra The Lion aka Conan is the war-chief of the Bamula tribe. The Ophirean, Livia of the House of Chelkus, is a captive of the Bakalah tribe. Conan and his warriors attack the Bakalahs. In a valley of white blossoms, Conan saves Livia from a winged devil from the Outer Dark. Conan is escorting the traumatized Livia to the Stygian borders, so that the Stygians can send her home to Ophir. They reach the town of Daynt (on the border between Kush and Stygia). They are welcome with open arms and disturbing smiles. They are invited to dine at Daynt's only inn. Conan peruses the tavern's menu and notices that the prices are much too low.  A suspicious Conan tells his Bamula brothers to "test" their food and to abstain from drinking the vino. The Bamulas and Livia gorge themselves eventually, but Conan barely touches the tainted food. Conan decides to retir...

Part two is here, Katherine Pulaski acting very out of character and so Carol Freeman and her lower decks crew mutiny and come up with a way to trick the Romulans and save the day. And as Pulaski leaves she repeats pips and the flashback story ends, and then the story ends as Beckett Mariner, Freeman, and Brad Boimler go skiing on mount Pulaski. It’s nice of them to name a holodeck mountain Durango. The flashback story wraps up nicely... I guess? Pulaski word dumps to just say she was playing the lower decks team of the USS Illinois to force them to solve the problem of the missing crew.  This could’ve been a single issue, but I get it: modern comics aren’t long novels, and you have back matter to shove in after the story... And having Mariner backslide for reasons was just to... have the flashback, which sure, sure. But I thought we already knew Freeman was a chaos goblin from the show? 7/10 Or am I thinking of some other Star Trek?

It’s a Combiner Wa… skirmish…scuffle? Yup! With Robert Kirkman’s Void Rivals having launched Skybound’s Energon Universe, noted writer/artist rolled-into-one Daniel Warren Johnson takes the reins on the linchpin of this initiative, the flagship Transformers comic series, with Jorge Corona on pencils and Mike Spicer on colors! In this twenty-first issue, Megatron leads a massive assault on the Ark, and he wants his arm back! That’s fine, because Optimus doesn’t want that smelly thing anymore anyhow! He doesn’t care HOW cool and edgy it makes him look! What’s this about combiners then? Well, Megatron’s got TWO to Optimus Prime’s ONE, as Superion makes his debut and immediately needs to take on both Bruticus and Devastator. That is, unless Bruticus and Devastator don’t wreck each other first! As for the rest of the excitement, Optimus finally realizes that the weird visions and violent spells he’s been having are due to Megatron’s arm! Apparently he never played Metal Gear Solid 2 and fig...

Sisko's forces begin freeing the Quadrant minds.  Along with Worf they make it to Lore's throne room and find Data's head.  Lore appears and with him he brings Jennifer and Jake.  Worf talks Sisko into completing their mission and Sisko calls forth the Orbs against Lore.  Worf uses an Orb and disintegrates Lore.  With that, Data restores the universe and the issue ends in a flash of light. There is a massive amount of ass-pull in this issue.  Sisko's forces easily manage to free the Quadrant minds.  They also manage to collect ten Orbs.  Did I sleep through this?  Were the Orbs ever mentioned?  You'd think someone like Lore would have erased the Orbs along with the Wormhole.  After all this, it just seems like the final stage of a video game that you beat on the simplest setting.  Worf kills Lore and that is it.  It is over just like that.  It feels so hollow.   five out of ten.

Creators : Larry Hama (writer), Paul Pelletier (penciller), Tonk Kordos (inker), Francesco Segala (colorist), Sabrina Del Grosso (flatter), Pat Brosseau (letterer) Plot : The infiltration team made up of Wet Suit, Muskrat, Helix, and Multo set up their surveillance of Cobra Island.  In Springfield, the Ninja Team go undercover to figure out what Destro is up to.  At Revanche, Dr. Mindbender is given an "upgrade" and has developed hand-to-hand skills.  The Cobra Island team witness the cruise ship guests are now sleeper agents for Revanche and both they and the Ninja team check in with Duke at the pit.  Meanwhile, in Scotland, Destro reveals that he added pain inducers while removing bullets from Cobra Commander and will use that to negotiate a good deal. Writing : Like we see a lot, Hama is putting all of his pieces into place for a few issues before getting to the action.  One thing I've enjoyed is that Hama does like to put the occasional military lingo in the...

SOLOMON KANE: THE SERPENT RING part 3: Till death do us part The false Jesuit minister Father Goncallo and his novice, Mbondu are guiding Zarza, Nico Cassini, Abramo Bensaid, Diamanta Bensaid and Solomon Kane deeper into the Kingdom of Ndongo. The Aragonese, Rolando Zarza (thorny shrub in Spanish), a disgraced Knight of Malta, is still in charge of the expedition. Solomon Kane is still protecting Abramo and his daughter, Diamanta. Mbondu mentions that Abramo's brother-in-law, Paolo Laurenti brought evil on the Ndongo and that Kane and Co are here to take this evil away. The Ndongo attack, stuffing the sky with arrows, shouting "Father Goncallo must die!". Saurez and a helper get killed.   Nico gets an arrow in the shoulder. Zarza shoots Mbondu's chieftain (the one who was directing the attack). The Ndongo retreat.
