G.I. Joe #8 (2024) review

Creators: Joshua Williamson (writer), Andrea Milana (artist), Lee Loughridge (colorist), Rus Wooton (letter)

Story: After a training exercise at the Pitt, the Baroness wishes to have 48 hours of leave (even though she's technically a prisoner).  Clutch brings Autobot Hound into the base.  Cobra Commander and Destro look at the Transformers battle in Seattle and decide to try to retrieve whatever they can from the devastation, though Cobra Commander wants a fully functioning Cybertronian.  Baroness is allowed a leave but Cover Girl needs to go with her.  They get to know each other a bit and enjoy some time in Paris until Major Bludd sends his agents after the Baroness.

Writing: This is a good character-driven issue, especially for the Baroness and Cover Girl.  We get some background on them and they seem to really start to bond over a few shared similarities.  Cobra Commander is still cryptic with Destro but a larger picture is starting to form, connecting the Transformers comic with G.I. Joe and we'll see that play out eventually.  I do find it hard to believe that Duke didn't hear Hound transform at all or Clutch talking to someone else when he showed up.  And there is a pretty cool introduction of a, traditionally speaking, not so cool character.

Art: While the art is pretty good throughout the issue, a lot of sections get an oversaturation of background colors.  The first part has a lot of dark reds, then some dark blues and finally some lighter oranges.  I just feel this takes away a bit from the art in this issue.

Overall:  A good character-driven issue.  While not a lot, overall, happens with the plot, we get some set-up for later issues and it starts to connect a bit more to the larger Energon Universe.

Void Rivals #17 review

Void Rivals Has Secrets To Reveal! It does and it continues here with issue # 17! Void Rivals is Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici’s sci-fi comic that tells the tale of two crumbling planets linked by a “Sacred Ring” (it’s not Halo), their peoples at war for generations. When a member of each culture are stranded together, the two find they must put aside their differences if they want to survive. This story takes place in the so-called “Energon Universe”, Skybound Entertainment’s initiative to relaunch properties like Transformers and G.I. Joe within a shared universe that also happens to include the original characters and setting of Void Rivals. In this seventeenth issue, the secret of Zerta Trion is revealed, Darak has a “friendly” chat with his father, and Proximus is on the rampage! Proximus? He was cool. He was! And that continues here as him and his new kid sidekick go on a quest together. It’s unclear exactly what Proximus wishes to get out of it, but he’s clearly no longer...

I want a perfect 10 out of 10!      I'm sorry that you're devastated. You'll find that all of our reviews are frank and feature constructive criticism. You ran the CTLP?       Yes, the Complete Transformers Listing Page, it linked to every single Transformers website on the internet. I kept it updated and dead links free for years and years. A titanesque task. Who was The Myth on the CTLP?       The Myth was my nickname for the youngest Transformers webmaster in the world. Today, he must be in his early 30s. Time flies.  You started a ...
