Void Rivals #21 review

War of the Void Rivals!

War begins, here in issue # 21 of Void Rivals! Void Rivals is Robert Kirkman’s sci-fi comic that tells the tale of two crumbling planets linked by a “Sacred Ring” (it’s not Halo), their peoples at war for generations. When a member of each culture are stranded together, the two find they must put aside their differences if they want to survive. This story takes place in the so-called “Energon Universe”, Skybound Entertainment’s initiative to relaunch properties like Transformers and G.I. Joe within a shared universe that also happens to include the original characters and setting of Void Rivals.

New ongoing artist Conor Hughes joins Kirkman and colorist Patricio Delpeche in this issue as Agorria and Zertonia stand at the brink of war! Darak and Solila’s efforts to bring forth Unity hit a big snag as Premier Zalilak returns from his spiritual sojourn and launches a full-on attack against Agorria. Meanwhile, Skuxxoid (our Skuxxoid) learns how to advance in the ranks of the Skuxxoid Army!

Big things happening, huh?

Yeah, by the end of this issue, war has begun as Zertonian bigwigs Zalilak and Proximus put aside their differences (sort of) and attack their rival planet. On said rival planet of Agorria, Darak and Solila haven’t done much to convince Minister Dulin on uniting the two planets. It looks like it’s going to take a lot more than the myth of a common foe to do so.

Hot Rod and Springer are also on Agorria and on our title characters’ side against the oncoming Zertonian siege, so next issue is sure to be an epic clash involving nearly ALL of our main characters. Skuxxoid (OUR Skuxxoid) is still learning the ropes of being one of many, but it seems like they will end up being yet another force arrayed against the others in this galaxy-spanning conflict.

So Kirkman is headed towards the finish line?

Well, I doubt that, but it seems like we’re at the midpoint of an important arc that will probably culminate in issue # 24 or # 25. Like I said, virtually all our characters are in the same place and I wonder with Kirkman taking over Transformers soon if things will be felt Earth-side soon. I assume Kirkman is going to continue writing Void Rivals as well as Transformers, so we should be seeing some bleed-over.

Cube?

Kirkman really steps on the gas here and next issue is gonna be an epic one. Conor Hughes’ art has already settled in and I’m eager to see how everything EXPLODES next issue! This issue is also full of great little character moments and just Kirkman firing on all cylinders.

Buy Void Rivals # 21 this week because the other half of the battle is a bunch of lasers firing back and forth!

Void Rivals #17 review

Void Rivals Has Secrets To Reveal! It does and it continues here with issue # 17! Void Rivals is Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici’s sci-fi comic that tells the tale of two crumbling planets linked by a “Sacred Ring” (it’s not Halo), their peoples at war for generations. In this seventeenth issue, the secret of Zerta Trion is revealed, Darak has a “friendly” chat with his father, and Proximus is on the rampage! Proximus? He was cool. He was! And that continues here as him and his new kid sidekick go on a quest together. It’s unclear exactly what Proximus wishes to get out of it, but he’s clearly no longer...

Is that Autobot Stratosphere in G.I. Joe: Special Missions (2013) #3?       Yes, it is. I was Paul Gulacy's toy reference guy for most of his run on Special Missions. Are your reviews written by Bots, Robots, Cyborgs or Artificial Intelligence (AI)?      Real humans only. One of your reviewers gave me a less-than-stellar rating/grade/score! My feelings are hurt. I want a perfect 10 out of 10!      I'm sorry that you're devastated. You'll find that all of our reviews are frank and feature constructive criticism. I'm extremely irritated that one of your reviewers gave my favorite thing a less-than-stellar rating/grade/score! What do you recommend I should do?      I appreciate your passion. At the end of the day all reviews are irrelevant, the only thing that matters is money. If you truly dig something, purchase it (even multiple times, if you can) to support it.
